Mashambanzou Care Trust
is an independent, non-discriminatory, non-profit organization which i dedicated to empowering people with the skills and knowledge to deal effectively with the Aids
pandemic through education and support.
The work began at Mashambanzoue in 1991, with the help of funding from a Noreigan aid organization. It included the creation
of self-help projects, counselling, feeding chemes, AIDS awareness programmes and physical care.
Sister Noreen Nolan (1935-1999) recongized that the pain and poverty in the lives of women with
HIV/AIDS was greater than the pain of having the virus. In order to deal with this, she shifted th
efocus from education and counselling to more self-help projects such as growing vegetables, sewing, and piece work - schemes that would generate money to contribute towards their survival.
Since the beginning of the project, Mashambanzou has grown enormously and another new project - the orphan outreach
programme was initiated in 1995 to meet the needs of a growing number of children orphaned through Aids. Today there ia daycare centre for 100 orphans and training
programmes to empower women with Aids, or widowed by the virus.
Noreen died of breast cancer last year. Her legacy lives on. If you can help Mashambanzou by donations, gifts or other
